Emotion
 
[französisch, zu lateinisch emovere, emotum »herausbewegen«, »um und um bewegen«, »erschüttern«] die, -/-en,  
 1) bildungsprachlich für: seelische Erregung, Gemütsbewegung; Gefühl, Gefühlsregung.
 
 2) Psychologie: Teil der dem Menschen eigenen mannigfachen Gemütsbewegungen; die nach Lebhaftigkeit und Intensität individuell unterschiedlich ausgeprägte Anteilnahme und Erregbarkeit auch als Ausdruck eines unspezifischen Ab- oder Hinwendungsverhaltens; zusammen mit den spezifischen Gedanken und Fantasien eines Menschen sind die Emotionen bestimmend für die jeweilige Qualität des Gefühls. Für die Gesamtheit des Gefühlslebens (Gemüt, Stimmung, Triebhaftigkeit) wurde von E. Bleuler die Bezeichnung Emotionalität geprägt. Mangelhafte Emotionalität in der Eltern-Kind-Beziehung hat auf die seelische Entwicklung des Kindes schwerwiegende Auswirkungen und kann Verhaltensstörungen bewirken.
 
Wie beim Affekt werden auch bei Emotionen vegetative Regulationsvorgänge vordergründig wirksam. Dauernde Störungen der Emotionen mit überwiegenden Abweichungen vom normalen Gefühlsleben werden als emotionelles Syndrom bezeichnet.

Emo|ti|on, die; -, -en [frz. émotion, zu: émouvoir = bewegen, erregen < lat. emovere = herausbewegen, emporwühlen] (bildungsspr., Fachspr.): seelische Erregung, Gemütsbewegung; Gefühl, Gefühlsregung: [durch, mit etw.] -en wecken; er sprach, antwortete ohne jede E.; Auch dadurch wurden diese Probleme einer größeren Öffentlichkeit bewusst - weil sie über den Bauch, über -en also, besseren Zugang zu den Menschen finden (natur 7, 1994, 104).
